The issue has been identified and resolved. Logins should now be possible again using the login.sherlock.stanford.edu DNS alias.

An ongoing campus DNS issue currently prevents correct resolution of the “login.sherlock.stanford.edu” name right now. Networking services have been notified.
In the meantime, you can try to SSH to a specific login node directly (for instance: ln01.sherlock.stanford.edu).
